SHELBYVILLE, Ind. – The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department responded to an accident in the 8300 block of W. State Road 44 on Friday evening. Deputies arrived at the crash scene at around 6:50 p.m.
The initial investigation determined that an SUV being driven by Javier Torres, 34, of Shelbyville, was eastbound and apparently crossed into the westbound lanes and struck a pickup head-on. The truck was operated by Kellen Lawson, 18, of Shelbyville.
Torres was pronounced dead at the scene. Lawson was transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital in stable condition. There were no other passengers in the vehicles.
