SEYMOUR, Ind. — Authorities say they’ve stopped a planned attack at Seymour High School.
A 15-year-old male student was arrested on a preliminary charge of attempted murder and placed in juvenile detention pending a review of the case by prosecutors.
“The Seymour school system and Seymour Police Department uncovered a possible threat to kill a student, or students, at Seymour School System, ” said Jackson County prosecuting attorney Amy Marie Travis. “Through additional investigation were able to find information that confirmed that activities were taking place.”
The plot allegedly was to occur in April 2018, marking the 19th anniversary of the Columbine High School shootings.
“The police found it reasonable to believe, and I agree, that upon the discovery of this plan, it is not unheard of that someone would decide to go forward with the plan earlier or move the date of the plan,” Travis said.
The student’s name is being withheld due to his age.
Seymour Police Chief Bill Abbott says the incident serves as a reminder for parents to keep an open line of communication with children.
