Bartholomew County Sheriff warns of IRS phone scam

COLUMBUS, Ind.—The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department reports that a resident has contacted them about an IRS Scam. In the most recent call, a recording told the resident that their social security and tax information had been compromised. If someone claiming to be from the IRS contacts you and cannot provide verification, hang up and contact local law enforcement. If you receive a call, you may contact your local IRS Office, or visit www.tigta.gov for more information. The telephone number reportedly making this scamming call is 202-280-7206.
