COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation Board approved a two-way language immersion pathway for Pre-K and Kindergarten students that will begin with the 2018-2019 school year. The pathway will be for both Spanish speaking and non-Spanish speaking students. BCSC Superintendent Dr. Jim Roberts said the pathway will allow students to be bi-literate, meaning they will be able to read and write in addition to speaking both languages. Director of Elementary Education, Dr. Laura Hack, says the pathway is not required for students, but will be an option that parents could choose for their child. Students opted in to the two-way language immersion will be placed in a classroom together for part of the day, giving them the opportunity to learn from each other, with assistance from teachers.
