BROWN COUNTY, Ind.–Groundbreaking ceremonies were held Tuesday morning in Brown County for construction on a new concert venue. The Brown County Convention and Visitors Bureau says the 2,000-seat Maple Leaf Performing Arts Center has been in the works for over a year.
The facility will be owned by the county and funded by the five percent innkeeper’s tax on overnight stays. As the venue grows and profits, it will essentially become self-sustaining, with excess revenue going back into the community through different channels to benefit residents and the destination in general. The local team who dreamed up the concept believes that the venue holds great potential for positive economic impact.
Construction is set to take place over the course of the next 12 months, with an anticipated opening date of summer 2019. The Maple Leaf Performing Arts Center is currently under negotiations with Live Nation to serve as its booking agency.
