BROWNSTOWN, Ind.– James D. Weesner, Jr., former director of the Winklepleck-Weesner Funeral Home in Brownstown, has been charged with misleading numerous clients into believing he had set up trust funds for them to pay funeral expenses.
The individuals made payments to Weesner on the assumption that the money was going to be deposited into trust funds established at a Brownstown bank. Investigators with the Indiana State Police Organized Crime and Corruption Unit say they don’t believe that Weesner ever set up the trust funds, instead keeping the money for himself. The bank in question informed the victims who inquired about their trust funds that no such accounts existed.
Weesner, 47, currently living in Indianapolis, has been charged with 25 counts of Wrongful Disbursement of Funeral Trust Funds and one count of Corrupt Business Influence.
