Business robbed, unlucky suspect soon arrested

COLUMBUS, Ind.–Sheriff’s deputies caught a theft suspect in the early hours of Wednesday morning after a routine traffic stop. The burglary occurred at QC Communications on Jonesville Road, according to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office. Several power tools were reported taken, valued at approximately $3,000.

While a sheriff’s deputy was still on the scene of the crime entering serial/model numbers of the stolen items, a Columbus police officer pulled over a vehicle driven by James Carmer, 21, of Columbus. After questioning the driver, the patrolman took inventory of the stopped car and allegedly located a reciprocating saw that had been reported stolen from QC Communications.

Carmer was taken into custody, transported to Bartholomew County Jail and charged with theft, receiving stolen property, possession of cannabis, possession of paraphernalia, and driving while suspended with a prior conviction.
