COLUMBUS, Ind. – More than 20 area organizations are supporting diversity in Columbus at an event Sunday afternoon. Celebrating our Diversity will show support for the many to different ethnic, racial, religious and social groups in the area. Celebrating our Diversity will also inform local citizens how they can get involved to prevent and confront the harassment and intimidation which have been occurring in our community.
The event will be held May 21 at 4 p.m., starting with a Proclamation by Mayor Jim Lienhoop from the steps of City Hall. Participants will then march to 4th Street between Jackson and Washington Streets where they will hear speakers representing local community organizations and diversity groups speak about what they are experiencing, what they are doing to address it, and how individuals in the community can support them. The program will be interpreted for the hearing impaired.
In the event of inclement weather, Celebrating our Diversity will be held inside the Commons.
