Chase ends with burning vehicle; two arrests

5-29-17 car fireCOLUMBUS, Ind. – Two people were arrested after leading police on a two-county pursuit Sunday. According to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, Deputy Nate Nichols attempted to stop Desi Buckler, 33, of Columbus near Jonathan Moore Pike because of faulty break lights. Buckler fled to Carr Hill Road, Terrace Lake Road, and back to state Route 46 where she managed to avoid stop sticks. Authorities say Buckler continued to flee through Brown County and back into Bartholomew County before finally hitting two sets of stop sticks and coming to a stop at County Road 50S. The vehicle had been running on rims, which caused the car to catch fire.

After some time in the burning vehicle, Buckler and the passenger, Douglas Houchens, 37, of Columbus, both exited the vehicle and surrendered. Buckler was taken to Bartholomew County Jail for multiple warrants, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and reckless driving. Houchens was arrested for multiple warrants, but was released and taken to Columbus Regional Hospital for admission.
