Columbus East dominates Cathedral, scores shot at state title

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.–The Columbus East Olympians advanced to the Class 5A state championship game after finally defeating the Indianapolis Cathedral Fighting Irish on Friday night. East scorched Cathedral 42-13. The Olympians have not had a good record against the Irish in recent IHSAA tournaments, but they rolled to the victory last night and ruined Cathedral’s chance at a 13th state championship. Columbus East now has the opportunity for its third state football title, having also won in 1979 and 2013.

Elsewhere, the Greenwood Woodmen lost to the East Central Trojans 27-14.

Columbus East will play Kokomo in the 5A Football State Championship at Lucas Oil Stadium, this Friday, November 24, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15. Tune to MOJO 102.9 FM, the Christmas Channel, to hear the game live.
