COLUMBUS, Ind.–The Columbus Fire Department is investigating what they determined was a suspicious vehicle fire Tuesday night. Capt. Mike Wilson says that CFD received a call from dispatch about the burning truck from a caller who was confused about the actual location of the vehicle. When crews arrived at the scene in the 2100 block of Home Avenue, they discovered the caller’s son’s fiancée had been asleep inside the home, unaware of the blaze outside. She was said to have noticed a bright light outdoors, but thought it was morning.
Wilson says that the fire started in the bed of the truck and progressed its way to the cab. Inside the bed was rubbish, cardboard boxes, carpet, a wooden end table, and other combustible materials. Fire department investigator Capt. Matt Noblitt added that if anyone has information about this fire incident, you should contact the Columbus Fire Department at 812-376-2679.
