COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Columbus Fire Department welcomed two new firefighters Tuesday, meaning the department is now fully staffed.
The Firefighters will undergo a department familiarization program as part of their on-the-job training. After completing the 10-week training program, they will receive shift and station assignments. The Columbus Fire Department currently has 95 sworn firefighters.
Firefighter Josh Hanson, 24, is a 2009 graduate of Southwestern High School in Shelby County and has an associates degree in public safety from Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana. Following graduation, Hanson completed an internship with the Sugar Creek Township Fire Department in Hancock County. He is a state-certified EMT and also holds a state certification for Firefighter l and II. Hanson resides in Hope.
Firefighter Daniel Pinnow, 27, is a Columbus native. Pinnow is a 2007 graduate of Trinity Lutheran High School in Seymour. He currently serves as a volunteer firefighter for both the Vernon and North Vernon Fire Department. Pinnow has lived in North Vernon since 2012 and has served as a volunteer firefighter for the last two years. He is state certified for Firefighter I and II and is currently obtaining an Instructor I certification.
