COLUMBUS, Ind. – At its Wednesday meeting, the Columbus Plan Commission approved the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department’s request for five zoning variances pertaining to parking at the proposed pollinator park in the Pleasant Grove area. The requests involved eliminating setbacks required by the relevant ordinance as well as placing pollinator plants, rather than trees and shrubs, in the areas subject to certain landscaping requirements.
Dascal Bunch, a council member representing District 1 where the park is to be located, spoke as a private citizen who grew up in the area. He said traffic in the Pleasant Grove neighborhood has not been a major issue over the years and endorsed the project.
Roger Lang was the sole plan commission member to vote in opposition. He cited that the park, generally speaking, has a specialized function and is not likely to bring people in numbers commensurate with the measures being discussed.
