The Indiana House Committee on Public Policy has approved a bill sponsored by Seymour Republican Jim Lucas that would allow correctional employees to keep licensed firearms in a locked vehicle on prison property.
“Employers should not be able to infringe upon their employees who are legally allowed to carry a handgun with a license to carry,” Lucas said. “While they are at work, a person should not be prohibited from safely storing their firearm in a locked case in their trunk or out of plain sight inside their secured vehicle.”
The proposal will also allow employees and elected officials at the statehouse to carry a licensed weapon into the capitol building. That would include members of the Legislative Services Agency, employees of the house and senate and elected officials.
