COLUMBUS, Ind.–In several special sessions, the Columbus City Council is spending this week considering the budgetary needs of each department within the city government for 2019. A recent study recommended that salaries be increased for all city employees so that Columbus would be more competitive in that area, placing many projects on the backburner for the upcoming year. The proposal is calling for a three percent increase for the city’s employees.
On Thursday, the council is holding budget hearings for the mayor’s office, the council itself, the parks department, animal care services, and about two dozen other departments.
