FRANKLIN, Ind. — Franklin Police got a pleasant surprise Thursday night, a visit from country singer Clint Black.
Officers were investigating an accident near State Road 44 and Interstate 65 around 11:00 p.m., when the singer approached the car of Sgt. Scott Carter. Being a country music fan, Carter knew who it was immediately and gave him a warm greeting.
Black spent about 30 minutes with the officers and provided them with signed copies of his latest album. Black also posed for pictures and met the new K-9 officer, Thor. The country singer told police that in a time when law enforcement agencies were under scrutiny he was very appreciative and respectful of their service to the community.
Sgt. Carter told Local News Digital he was shocked and humbled by the visit. Also, the officers turned down an offer for tickets to an upcoming show in Carmel, on Friday, August 26, at the Palladium saying, “We don’t want to accept any gratuity for a job we want to do for the community.” Carter and a group of officers plan to attend the show at their own expense.
Black was on his way to perform in Schaumburg, Illinois.
Black has had 22 No. 1 singles on the country charts, and has had roles in various movies and TV shows. Black is one of only four country music singers to have a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame.
