East clinches regionals, eyes semi-state

SOUTH CENTRAL INDIANA–The Columbus East Olympians came away from Friday night’s matchup against Castle with a regional win and a ticket to next week’s semi-state championship game. Castle scored early in the contest, but East answered before halftime and twice again in the third quarter, making their lead, 20-7. Castle rallied for one touchdown in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough as the Olympians prevailed, 20-13. East, ranked third in the state in Class 5A, will host second-ranked Decatur Central next Friday night with the winner going to the IHSAA finals. By virtue of their regional victory, the Columbus East Olympians will automatically move up to Class 6A next season.

Elsewhere, Center Grove shut out Avon, progressing to the Class 6A semi-state round next week. Brownstown was blown out by Evansville Memorial, bringing the Braves great season to an end.
