SOUTH CENTRAL INDIANA–Friday night brought heartbreak for the Columbus East Olympians, a team which had high hopes for another semi-state championship. Despite a great effort, Columbus East will not have the opportunity to defend the IHSAA 5A state championship they won last year.

Decatur Central edged Columbus East, 27-24, in a game that saw the lead change several times. The Olympians were up by a touchdown at halftime but fell victim to an onside kick to begin the second half. Decatur Central quickly tied the score. East temporarily regained the lead before Decatur Central took control again. The Olympians were trailing by three points with one second remaining and had one last shot to extend the contest. A 42-yard field goal came up just short of the crossbar.

In Indianapolis, the Warren Central Warriors topped the Center Grove Trojans. Warren Central rolled to an early two-touchdown lead in the first quarter. Center Grove inched its way back but came up on the short end of a 27-20 score.
