FRANKLIN, Ind. — Officials from Franklin Community Schools have named Katie Smith as the principal at Union elementary School and Nicci Sargent as the procipal of Northwood Elementary School.
For the last seven years Smith had served as the principal at Northwood Elementary. Prior to that, Smith was a kindergarten teacher and literacy coach at the same school. Smith has a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Ball State University.
“Although, it will be hard to leave the nest after sixteen years, I’m excited for the new experience,” Katie Smith said. “Union is legendary, and I’m anxious to be the leader of this great school. I value the traditions I have heard about for years, and I am eager to be a part of them. Together, we will continue the excellence of Union Elementary. Go Ramblers!”
Sargent has served Franklin Community Schools since 2004 as a teacher, instructional coach, and most recently the assistant principal at Northwood Elementary. She has a bachelor’s degree from Franklin College and a master’s degree from Indiana University.
“I’m so excited about continuing to help lead Northwood,” Nicci Sargent said. “My own children were Northwood Owls, so my love for the Nest goes deep! The faculty and staff are fantastic and I look forward to working together to grow our students!”
