GREENWOOD, Ind. — Evan McClain, of Greenwood, has been recognized as a Kroger Scholar. The honor comes with a $1,000 award. Evan works at the Kroger store on Meridian Park Drive in Greenwood, and is a student at IUPUI, majoring in computer science-software engineering.
The Kroger Scholar program was launched in 2014 and is intended to improve educational opportunities and build the best workforce possible for the future. Kroger central division president, Katie Wolfram says, “Strong support of education should be a priority for every corporate citizen. K-12 education is one of five national priorities for the Kroger Co., and in the central division we place a special emphasis on this.”
The program is available to associates and their children. To qualify, employees must have two years of service and work at least 1,000 hours per year. This year more than 300 students will earn the recognition as Kroger Scholars. The funds can be used at any accredited two or four-year college, university or vocational program.
