FRANKLIN, Ind.–Using ingenuity to rival that of television’s MacGyver, a sheriff’s deputy followed a trail of leaky auto fluid to catch a hit-and-run suspect at his home Tuesday evening. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says Shawn Browning, 45, of Franklin, allegedly hit a utility pole on County Road 450E, knocking out power to nearby residents. The crash caused notable damage to his truck, including a fluid leak.
An officer responding to the call was able to follow the trail from Browning’s vehicle, which led to a home on South County Road 510E. The deputy made contact with the suspect and was given reasonable cause to take him into custody.
Shawn Browning was transported to Johnson County Jail without incident after medical clearance at Johnson Memorial Health. He was charged with failure to stop after an accident.
