HOPE, Ind.–A Hope man is in custody after supposedly sending inappropriate messages through social media to a minor. The Hope Police Department says they were alerted to the unnamed 47-year-old man following a complaint from the minor’s family.
After the complaint was filed, police say the man tried to re-initiate a conversation with the minor, but unbeknowst to him, he wound up exchanging pleasantries with a police officer instead. The suspect allegedly requested a face-to-face meeting. The Hope Police Department says officers later met him at the arranged meeting site.
While at the meeting with the officer, law enforcement says the man also admitted to having narcotics in his vehicle. The suspect was arrested on the drug charge.
Possible charges regarding the inappropriate messages will be forwarded to the prosecutor for review and consideration.
