INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) reminds all Hoosiers to keep any valuables out of their trash cans. This can be done, in part, by reducing, reusing and recycling.
Empty and rinse out all recyclable containers, like soup and beverage cans and plastic containers, collect newspapers, and gather up broken or obsolete electronic components. There are many other items that can be recycled into brand new, usable products. This can help reserve our country’s natural resources, save energy and help the economy.
In 1960, most Americans produced roughly 2.68 pounds of trash every day. Since then, the number has increased to about 4.4 pounds daily. Although the number of people who recycle has increased, the country’s production of waste is also on the rise.
If you are unsure what can and cannot be recycled, here are some tips. All glass, paper, metals and plastic products can be reinvented with recycling. Automotive fluids, cleaning products, textiles, old clothing, as well as many types of electronics are also recyclable.
