VERNON, Ind.–The Jennings County Council has no desire to fund a new jail, but the state of Indiana is encouraging it and might not give local lawmakers much of a choice because of severe overcrowding at the current facility. According to the North Vernon Plain-Dealer and Sun, the Jennings County Council will meet Tuesday, at 6 p.m., at the Jennings County Government Center in Vernon, to discuss the building of a new detention center.
The cost is estimated to be $28 million and an increase in income taxes would be likely.
