FRANKLIN, Ind.–The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department will have a deputy shortage come January 1, 2019. Sheriff Doug Cox tells Local News Digital that five officers, with 170 years of total experience, will be leaving the force due to retirement.
At last Monday night’s Johnson County Council meeting, Cox requested help to rectify that situation and it was granted. By unanimous vote, the council approved the department’s hiring of four new deputies who have been previously trained at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. Rather than starting the academy in February as a typical recruit would do, these deputies will hit the pavement running on January 1, in time to assist with the transition to the newly-elected sheriff.
