GREENWOOD, Ind.–A 14-year-old boy will likely spend fall break in custody rather than on the beach. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says the juvenile apparently stole his grandfather’s truck and went on a joy ride through Greenwood early Sunday morning. Deputies gave chase until the young teen’s ride came to an end at Pine Crest Apartments, where he stopped and turned himself over to law enforcement. Two juvenile females were also in the vehicle and allegedly asked him to stop several times during the ordeal.
The boy’s grandfather told authorities that he had not given his grandson permission to operate the truck and had noticed a second set of keys missing at home prior to the incident.
The teen was taken to the Johnson County Juvenile Detention Center, charged with operating a vehicle without receiving a license, reckless driving, and resisting law enforcement with a vehicle.
