Columbus, Indiana — Unemployment rates in several local counties are on the way down.
From March to April 2016 Jennings County reported the largest decrease of 1.1 percent, 6.2 percent to 5.1 percent for April of 2016. For the same period, Bartholomew County had the lowest rate at 3.5 percent. The Indiana Department of Workforce Development estimates there are 43,553 jobs in the Columbus area. Johnson County Dropped .6 percent to 4 percent. Jackson County unemployment for the period dropped .5 percent to 3.9 percent. The Decatur County jobless rate is down .7 percent to 3.8 percent.
