COLUMBUS, Ind.–A man’s attempt to elude officers by jumping out of a moving vehicle proved to be for naught Friday morning in Columbus. Lt. Matt Harris of the Columbus Police Department says that Troy Morris, 48, of Columbus, was observed as a passenger in a suspicious vehicle on Carrie Lane. When the driver noticed that they were being observed by officers, he sped across the street and pulled into a gas station.
However, when police approached the vehicle, they say there was only one occupant. A witness supposedly tipped them off that the passenger had exited the moving vehicle and fled before officers arrived. CPD says they found Morris hiding behind a dumpster. Officers say he initially provided them with a false name because, as they later discovered, he was wanted for a parole warrant in Kentucky.
Morris was taken into custody and stands accused of obstruction of justice, false informing, possession of drug paraphernalia, and the Kentucky parole warrant.
