Driver crashes after police pursuit

William R. Bowen

COLUMBUS, Ind.–A Bartholomew County man was arrested Tuesday night after leading police on a brief car chase. Lt. Matt Harris of the Columbus Police Department says that William Bowen, 67, of Columbus, was pulled over for making an improper lane change near Jonathan Moore Pike and Interstate 65.

However, during the traffic stop, the driver allegedly told the officer that he was having a medical emergency and sped away. CPD pursued Bowen as he headed east and turned onto Jonesville Road where he lost control of his vehicle near County Road 550S. The suspect’s car went down an embankment and crashed into a cornfield.

Bowen was taken into custody, transported to Bartholomew County Jail, and charged with reckless driving, resisting law enforcement, and intimidation.
