BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind.–The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department says it will not be pursuing criminal charges in the death of a dog named Riley. The two-year-old German shepherd that was rescued from a shelter in Bartholomew County in November was eventually surrendered to a Putnam County shelter where he soon died of malnutrition. After interviewing multiple people involved with Riley’s care, detectives determined that despite having had several owners, there was no probable cause to make a criminal case and/or arrest regarding his death. The investigation revealed that the animal had died of intestinal parasites and whipworms, along with a coccidian infection.
