GREENWOOD, Ind. — A group led by the Oaken Barrel Brewing Company has presented plans to the Greenwood Redevelopment Commission to purchase and renovate the Vista Village retail center.
The brewery owners and Franklin-based Bemis Group plan to invest about $2.6 million renovating the entire 4-acre site, including the 28,000-square-foot retail area. When complete, the name will be changed to Airport Parkway Plaza. A new Oaken Barrel entrance and patio dining area will be added.
The Greenwood Redevelopment Commission approved $500,000 for expedited infrastructure improvements like parking lot upgrades, directional signage, landscaping, and maintenance on the nearby retention pond.
Commission president and Mayor Mark Myers believe the project will create an attractive shopping destination at the entrance to downtown Greenwood and keep the Oaken Barrel Brewing Company in the area for many years to come.
The Oaken Barrel Brewing Company was established in 1994, the second oldest craft brewing company in the state, and has been named “Brewery of the Year” five times by the Indiana Brewers’ Cup.
