Pair arrested for drugs after traffic stop in stolen car

COLUMBUS, Ind.–Two people, in what was later determined to be a stolen car, were pulled over early Tuesday morning when law enforcement noticed that the tail lights on the vehicle were malfunctioning.

Lt. Matt Harris, the public information officer with Columbus Police Department, says that during the traffic stop, Larry Evans, 22, of North Vernon, was discovered to be driving on a suspended license. While investigating the scene, a canine officer alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the car. CPD says a search yielded syringes, drugs, and paraphernalia allegedly belonging to Evans and his passenger Victoria Villegas, 20, of Columbus.

Evans and Villegas were arrested, transported to Bartholomew County Jail, and charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia. Evans faces additional charges of driving with a suspended license and possession of stolen property.
