NORTH VERNON, Ind.–Officers from the North Vernon Police Department (NVPD) were dispatched Sunday evening to a Jennings County home regarding a disturbance between a mother and her adult son. Public information officer Sgt. Andy Richmond says NVPD was told that the 39-year-old man had been acting erratically, arguing with his mother, and threatening to “end it all.” The man had also allegedly taken a straight razor and cut himself several times on both forearms.
Patrolmen on the scene established communication with the man and began negotiating with him while members of the Emergency Response Team were summoned. After approximately four hours of negotiations, they were able to detain him. He was transported to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital for a mental health evaluation.
