NORTH VERNON, Ind.–A group of local high school students at Jennings County High School has collaborated to accomplish something pretty spectacular. The teenagers have built their own aircraft from scratch.
The program in which the students are involved is called Aviation Nation. The purpose of the group was to construct a flyable, single-engine, Vans RV-12 aircraft that could be sold to fund a future airplane build. The current project began in 2017 and has come together over the past few months at the North Vernon Municipal Airport.
On Wednesday, the airplane passed FAA inspection and is ready for its maiden flight in the near future.
