COLUMBUS, Ind.–A local man was arrested after a Tuesday evening hit-and-run accident in downtown Columbus. Columbus Police Department public information officer Lt. Matt Harris says an off-duty Indiana State Police officer witnessed Kyle Fillmore, 54, of Columbus, hit another vehicle near 16th Street and Lafayette Avenue, and then leave the scene. The suspect sped away, despite not having his rear passenger-side tire. Fillmore managed to drive his way to the entrance of Noblitt Park, where he and his damaged vehicle were located by law enforcement.
While speaking with CPD officers, they say they thought Fillmore’s breath smelled of alcohol. Authorities also claim he allegedly dropped an item on the ground that contained methamphetamine and marijuana.
He was taken into custody, transported to Bartholomew County Jail, and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated with endangerment, leaving the scene of a bodily injury crash, and possession of meth and marijuana.
