Suspended driver jailed for drugs, firearm violations

COLUMBUS, Ind.–A Wednesday morning traffic stop near Brooks Street and Kentucky Avenue in Columbus resulted in the arrest of the driver. Lt. Matt Harris with the Columbus Police Department says an officer pulled over Marcus Hupp, 22, for ignoring a stop sign.

While talking to Hupp about the incident, officers discovered his license had been suspended. CPD placed him under arrest and conducted a search of Hupp that allegedly revealed a concealed bag of what law enforcement suspected to be methamphetamine. Police say an inspection of the vehicle also produced a handgun from the center console that had its serial number removed.

Hupp was transported to Bartholomew County Jail and charged with driving while suspended, possession methamphetamine, carrying an unlicensed handgun, and obliterating the identifying marks on a handgun.
