COLUMBUS, Ind.–The Columbus Visitors Center held its annual meeting Wednesday afternoon and shared the highlights of 2017 which included the 30 percent-increase in visitors to the center and the growth in city tours by 22 percent over 2016. Also, the design phase was completed for “Destination Neighborhoods,” a project that creates a unique visual identity for four Columbus neighborhoods, including Downtown Columbus, the Airpark, State Street, and the Exit 76 Shopping Corridor.
Additionally, the center:
- Worked on behalf of the VIP to manage improvements to our sports tournament facilities.
- Partnered with Cummins to renovate 301 Washington and install an interpretive exhibit.
- Announced a partnership with the Yellow Trail Museum that enables them to provide visitors information services and increase the hours of operation for the museum.
- Worked with the State Tourism office to get into Chicago and Indianapolis markets
- Collaborated with Midwest Living to produce the Columbus IN Style Magazine, which was awarded best Travel Guide at the Indiana Tourism Conference
- Partnered with the city to host 89 sports tourism events attracting 170,000 people
Looking ahead, the Visitors Center is sponsoring an upcoming PBS documentary on Clessie Cummins which will air later this year.
