NEW WHITELAND, Ind. — Police arrested a man believed to be connected to a rash of burglaries in New Whiteland over the weekend.
Several cars were broken into in the neighborhoods of Country Gate, Tracy Road and Peachtree between Saturday night and Sunday morning. Items stolen included a handgun and electronics.
A New Whiteland police officer attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle Monday morning when it fled before stopping and the suspects got out of the vehicle, police said.
Detectives said they found several reported stolen items inside the car.
Police later arrested Steven L. Wagers, 32, of Franklin, on suspicion of the thefts. Wagers was allegedly found in a home with methadone that belonged to a resident in Country Gate.
Wagers was charged with theft or receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and resisting law enforcement.
Prosecutors could alter charges against Wagers and another man that was in the car during the traffic stop.
