COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Minnesota semi driver was seriously injured in an Interstate 65 crash Friday morning that slowed southbound traffic for hours.
The accident occurred around 7 a.m. when the semi left the roadway near mile marker 67.
The semi traveled down an embankment before rolling onto its side and striking a tree.
“The force of the collision nearly removed the cab from the frame of the truck,” said Indiana State Police spokesperson Sgt. Stephen Wheeles.
Steven Rohde, 52, of Grey Eagle, Minn., was trapped in the semi for one hour before firefighters could free him. He was flown to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment of possible life-threatening injuries.
Emergency crews removed 43,000 pounds of french fries from the trailer before it was removed.
Southbound traffic was slowed for nearly six hours.
