INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — A Greenwood man pleaded guilty to unemployment insurance fraud, a Class D felony, in a Marion County criminal court.
Robert E. Coy, 41, was sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to repay $18,680 to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) for the benefits he fraudulently collected.
Coy knowingly defrauded the system by collecting unemployment insurance benefits while he was working a full-time job.
DWD receives wage reports and new hire data from Hoosier employers documenting who is employed and receiving compensation. The agency uses this information to ensure people are not collecting unemployment insurance benefits while working.
