INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Evan Bayh will run for the U.S. senate seat soon to be vacated by Dan Coats. “With the challenges facing Indiana and our country, I can no longer sit on the sidelines and watch as partisan bickering grinds Washington to a halt,” Bayh said. “Hoosier families deserve more and I’ve decided to run to take their cause to the U.S. Senate.”
Bayh served as Indiana’s 46th governor from 1988 to 1997 and in the U.S. senate from 1999 to 2011. As a senator, Bayh was known as a moderate Democrat and served as the chairman of the Democratic Leadership Council.
In a prepared statement Bayh says he will support a balanced budget amendment, cut regulations for small businesses and fight against unfair trade practices.
Bayh left the senate to spend time with his family but sees gridlock in Washington D.C. as a threat to the future his family and every other Hoosier.
