COLUMBUS, Ind. — France-based Faurecia, has unveiled the new, technologically advanced Columbus South facility. The plant employs 450 workers, and will use self-learning autonomous intelligent vehicles that will transport components to the assembly line, and use a paperless system that helps workers continuously collect data that can predict and prevent equipment failures.
The technology package is also expected to reduce worker stress and improve their work-life balance.
“Manufacturing is sometimes stereotyped as dirty and requiring few skills,” said Dave DeGraaf, president of Faurecia Emissions Control Technologies of North America. “Columbus South contributes to the shifting landscape of the industry to one that is modern, clean, technologically advanced, and aimed at attracting a new generation of employees with different and advanced skillsets.”
Faurecia also employs 1600 additional workers in two other Columbus facilities.
