COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Columbus man was arrested Thursday afternoon following a theft at a local business, and subsequent pursuit.
Employees at the Lowes Home Improvement store on 10th Street told Columbus Police that a man sprayed an employee with pepper spray as he fled the store with several items at 2:45 p.m. Police located the suspect, Douglas Houchens, 37, in a vehicle nearby and attempted to make a traffic stop. Houchens fled, and was able to elude police for a short time. He was eventually located near 16th and Maple Streets in Columbus and taken into custody.
Houchens has been charged with theft, resisting law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine, battery, and reckless driving.
