FRANKLIN, Ind. — Franklin College has launched a new effort in an attempt to create a new generation of scientists. Trustees have approved a plan to build a new science center on campus that will align curriculum with work force needs.
In 2011, the college began a program to use input from business, industry, and national associations to reconfigure coursework.
Natural Sciences Division Head, Steve Browder said, “the renovated and expanded science facility, coupled with our ‘learning science by doing science’ curriculum, will engage students in project-based learning, cross-functional collaboration, research opportunities as early as the freshman year, and sharpened oral and written scientific communication skills. Graduates with these kinds of educational experiences and training are highly sought after by employers and graduate schools.”
The complete scope of the project has not been released, but the school is expected to break ground in May 2017. Completion has been scheduled for early 2018.
