COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Seymour resident is facing a driving while intoxicated charge after hitting a fire hydrant in the city of Columbus on Tuesday at 7:40 a.m.
Lt. Matt Harris says, a security guard in the 8200 block of International Drive told police a vehicle hit the hydrant and continued to a parking area. Police noticed a vehicle with extensive front end damage and made contact with the driver, Horacio Tamariz, 57. At the scene, officers noticed Tamariz had slurred speech and trouble keeping his balance. After failing a field sobriety test, he tested .186 percent on a certified breath test.
Tamariz was arrested for operating while intoxicated, driving without ever obtaining a license, and driving without proof of financial responsibility.
