GREENSBURG, Ind. — Greensburg Police say Jason Eaton, 43, has confessed to shooting Wendy Sabatini, 44, after she declined his marriage proposal Tuesday night. Police were at the scene in the 900 block of East Washington Street around 7:30 p.m., where Eaton admitted to committing the crime earlier in the evening. Police found Sabatini’s body and the murder weapon in an upstairs bedroom.
Police were allowed access to the home by Sabatini’s son who did not know the crime had been committed.
Police said that Eaton declared he made the proposal, showed Sabatini the ring, and she immediately declined. Eaton then reportedly grabbed a gun from the nightstand and fired it, striking her in the head. Police reports indicate that Eaton left the crime scene and confessed to the crime initially at a friend’s home. He was then accompanied to the police department by that acquaintance.
Law enforcement is now attempting to establish a timeline and gathering other evidence.
