COLUMBUS, Ind. — The 2017 Energy Assistance Program is now taking applications. If you are in a disconnect status, out of fuel, low on heating fuel (at or below 25 percent), or your heat or electric has been turned off, please call your local outreach department today.
The primary purpose of this assistance program is to help families with lower incomes to be able to sustain the rising costs of maintaining a home. Each qualified household is given a one-time benefit that allows them to maintain utility services throughout the heating and cooling seasons. All households need to apply and meet guidelines. Once qualified, a specified dollar amount can be applied toward the heating source. Typically this is a single payment that is paid directly to the utility provider.
Additionally, customers may find assistance during a family crisis. This may help avoid disconnection or it may assist in restoring disconnected services.
The Energy Assistance Program is implemented throughout a five county service area with outreach offices in each county. All offices provide on-site crisis application intake. More information is online at in.gov/ihcda/2329.htm .
