LAS VEGAS, NV. — Auto dealership owner and Greenwood resident Ray Skillman was injured in a qualifying crash at an NHRA event in Las Vegas last Thursday. Skillman suffered a broken rib, a fractured vertebra, a laceration on his hand and severe bruising.
Skillman lost control near the finish line, veered into a wall, flipped, and skidded on the roof of the vehicle before rolling onto the wheels after hitting a gravel trap. NHRA officials are inspecting the car and the track to help find the cause of the incident. Skillman is expected to make a full recovery.
The 75-year-old businessman was released from the hospital Saturday, and quickly returned to the racetrack to watch his grandson compete in the Pro Stock division. Skillman operates nine retail auto sales locations in Greenwood, Indianapolis, Martinsville and New Whiteland.
