COLUMBUS, Ind. — Fire destroyed a detached garage in Columbus Tuesday morning.
Neighbors noticed smoke coming from a structure in the 1000 block of Pennsylvania Avenue around 6 a.m., and firefighters were immediately called. Firefighters were on the scene within five minutes and found the structure to be fully engulfed. The garage was about 25 feet from the home.
As firefighters battled the blaze, nearby vinyl siding began to melt. Flames spread to a nearby privacy fence, and a neighbor’s tree and yard. The fire was under control by 6:19 a.m.
At this point, the cause has been ruled undetermined and damage is estimated at $15,000.
