COLUMBUS, Ind. — There is a new Bartholomew County Government IT director. Scott Mayes began Monday and was recently introduced to the County Council. Mayes is currently the only employee in the department.
After complaints from previous employees over hours, leadership and pay, the county’s IT department had diminished. The last of the employees resigned in September 2015, leaving the department unstaffed.
County Commissioners have been trying to pay for external corporations to reply to computer emergencies, as well as to manage routine IT maintenance while they attempt to figure out a solution for their department.
Mayes served as Bartholomew County’s IT director about 11 years ago. Since that time, he has been employed by both TLS.net and Indiana Bank and Trust.
To date, Mayes is the lone employee of the Bartholomew County’s IT department. His responsibilities include evaluating the county’s needs and making important decisions regarding how to balance contract employees and in-house staffing.
